Yes. Salary cap-wise it is a non-issue, but for Canes the real out of pocket $ (which would be same at NHL or NHL) would be the same.

I think you need to send down Westgarth. He's a great extra forward, but he provided very little in the Isles game. Took a bad penalty at center ice. Collided with Skinner on a line change. And then basically rode the pine the rest of the night. No way can you risk Bellemore or even Sutter I think. Lindholm needs to get every chance early on to claim a third line spot.

Send Westgarth down to Charlotte now. Let him help in leading the young kids (Westy is a great character guy) and then call him up for extended periods of time when either the matchups dictate or someone is hurt.

it is important for the Canes to pile on points in the standings early this season. The whole metropolitan division is playing poorly. Truthfully only Pittsburgh has a winning record. Playoffs spots are there to be taken and it is better to grab your spot early.

I think the big dividend with Lindholm is replacing Bowman on the Pp. I think he has a good chance of being an upgrade over Nash on the 3rd, but Nash fits pretty well now that he only has to be the 3rd best offensive player.

Not sure what happens on D. My guess is Hainsey Gleason most nights until someone gets hurt. Complicated situation as I don't think Murphy can just be paired with whoever. I'd want a guy with some puck skills, which I'm not sure Komi or belle have.

Faulk and Sekera

Hainsey and Murphy

Gleason and Bellmore

Sekera has been caught out of position more often than Murphy yet Murphy mistakes seem to be mentioned more often. Murphy is going to be the catalyst for the power play now and in the future. Good to be loaded with D

Chip is thinking it might be an ankle injury, but not a high ankle sprain.

Matt, looking down is kinda pessimistic, don't you think? With the record we have after playing THAT schedule...i'm happy. We could improve our record with a more modest sched the next 9 games!!! If we could do 5-2-2 or better for the next nine games, we'd be in fine shape in the standings! Gleason and Lindholm returning is a pretty nice problem to have IMO!

It is, but 2 things on that:

1) For a team that has missed the playoffs 4 years running, my standings number of interest is the gap between the Canes and the 1st team not in a playoff spot.

2) I really do not care much about playoff seeding. Sure home ice is better than not, and avoiding a couple top shelf teams in the 1st round is preferred, but at the end of the day in the NHL it is all about just getting in and playing good hockey at the right time of year. Best example in Canes history is fun 2009 run.

It's not about the seeding per se, it's about achieving greatness... doing the best you can! Why settle, when it's about effort, even more than just talent? Those hockey players don't like to lose, and desire can out-trump skill!

Hopefully he is back soon and does not loose the groove he was in. Having two star goaltenders will get you a lot of points in the long haul.

Problem is, a lot of times, both teams put in the effort and skill is the tie breaker.

No different to pay him in Charlotte than in the press box. Westgarth is a waste of a roster spot. He can't skate. He's always behind the play and passes to open ice. The only thing he does is fight.
